Writing articles for The Tiger has become a newfound passion of mine. As an effort to broaden my writing portfolio beyond academic essays, I joined The Tiger in January of 2023 and was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed learning about journalism. For the first five weeks, the newbies, or "junior staff", would meet every Thursday, where the senior staff members would lead various workshops. I chose to pursue the journalism certificate in reporting news, but they also offered workshops on editing, photojournalism and visual journalism with respective certificates. I was uncertain about joining The Tiger, as I was curious if journalism was a field I was interested in, but I am so happy that I did. Through The Tiger, I have discovered a passion for a type of writing that was once foreign to me, become familiar with the Associated Press Style, and joined a community of people I otherwise would not have crossed paths with.
